Connor has a new thing he just learned to do. We were lucky enough to catch it on video. Gurgling was never so funny. I love that boy.

Connor is usually just the sweetest baby ever.  He’s so pleasent and wonderful.  But sometimes he just has a bad day.  He’s in a phase right now where he just has an occasional meltdown- he just fusses and hollars for a while then he’s fine.  Just thought I’d share the moments with ya’ll.

Finally – Connor decided today that holding his bottle is an ok thing.  YAY!

Now if I could only get him to be potty trained, and spoon feed himself.

Ok I have to admit – now that I’ve figured out this video thing I’m kinda going overboard. Although 3 videos is hardly overboard. So here is Connor eating. He is VERY intense about it

Well all last night I made a TON of baby food.  And I mean a TON.  I made papaya, nectarines, peaches, mango, beets, sweet potatoes, peas, carrots, and oh yeah dinner for Scott and I.  My kitchen looks like a hurricane went through it.  So after slaving away for hours I warm up a delicious bowl of chicken/pea/carrot for Connor.  what does he do?  He spits it at me and refuses to eat.  Sigh – baby food can be fun.  That’s what I keep telling myself.

well I’m working – I’m listening to an event take place in the big room waiting for rehearsal to start.  And there is an event for young girls happening.  I dont know maybe its me but these kinds of events make me uncomfortable.  these young girls have gone through classes to help them become “young women of virtue”  Maybe its my cynical nature or maybe my life experiences but I think it’s lunacy.  I mean do these parents really think that their girls are going to become what they want them to be because they took a class?  My experience with Christian girls is the church does little more than teach them how to manipulate the people around them by blinding them with fake virtue.  They are taught rules and rituals, but their hearts are not tattooed with a love for God and a desire to follow him.  

I’m listening to these young girls reciting a vow to have Christ reign in their lives and I think to myself that this is a good thing.  The children’s director is talking with them about making choices and deciding their decision in advance, and that’s all good.  But girls my age and I went through lessons like this, but not many of us (if any) actually followed through as adults.  I’m just wondering what makes these teachings take root in some lives and not in others.  sigh I’m just a bit cynical about this whole church thing right now.  why have programs?   I know they are good, but head knowledge doesn’t necessarily mean heart knowledge in most of these things.  But i know people in ministry who have a sincere desire to really help kids/teens along to live right lives.  Argh this is all garbled, all I’m saying really is i dont think what I’ve seen done in the past works – but I’m curious to see if what I see here works.  I’ll just have to keep an open mind.  

Now that I’m a parent I’m more than just curious about how to raise a child up in The Way.  I need to know because I dont want to mess up.  

I’ve been watching Idol Gives Back and its messing me up. They just finished a segment on malaria in Africa, and there was a woman in a hospital watching her daughter lying in a coma from malaria. The girl was 8mos old. A month and a few thousand miles separates that baby girl from Connor.

A different time or place and I could have been the mother sitting at the bedside wondering if this child would die. Mothers should not watch their babies die. Our hearts were not meant to take it. 13 million orphans in Africa from AIDS. And I’m upset that I’m stuffing all of my son’s stuff into my little car. Gosh I’m so disgusting.
